Outpost Adventure Series Coordinator(s)


The Outpost, home of the Duke Bikes program, is an adventure gear station that provides a gathering space for Duke student groups and individuals seeking outdoor recreation opportunities and resources. Employees will be the individuals who bring this vision to life, and assist in the development of additional Outpost programs and initiatives. As an Outpost employee, you will receive ample training on the procedures and services that are housed in our office and will be a critical member to the work done by the Office of Student Activities and Facilities.

The Outpost Team assists individuals with:
  • Basic bike maintenance and bike information
  • Information about outdoor programs including camping, rock climbing, etc.
  • Leading and coordinating outdoor adventure programs
  • Checking in and out bikes, camping equipment, sporting goods, and managing inventory
Adventure Series Coordinator Responsibilities:
  • Organize, supervise, and coordinate different adventure programs including camping, kayaking, fly fishing, etc.
  • Organize, plan, and lead hands-on training sessions for excursion participants
  • Lead excursions for students to local North Carolina Adventure program sites
  • Maintain bike/outdoor gear inventory
  • Set up camping gear and assist in planning camping trips
Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of bike maintenance (training will be provided during employee orientation)
  • Basic knowledge of outdoor/adventure programming (including camping, orienteering, etc.)
  • Creativity and willingness to brainstorm new initiatives
  • Accountability for your work schedule and duties/responsibilities
  • Knowledge of proper outdoor safety and trip coordination
  • Knowledge of basic first-aid
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Ability to maintain and balance an assigned budget
