Leadership Coaching

Undergraduate students are invited to participate in a joint research effort between the Division of Student Affairs and the Fuqua/Coach K Center on Leadership and Ethics (COLE). A diverse group of thirty-two students – 8 from each class, representing many majors – will be selected to serve as members of a Leadership Coaching cohort.

Leadership Coaching will include a 360-degree leadership assessment that explores students’ individual leadership styles and identifies specific challenges and opportunities. Students will work one-on-one with experienced leadership coaches to develop a personalized plan for successful leadership that can be implemented immediately in any context, such as student organizations, athletic teams or scholar programs. Participating students make a yearlong commitment to the program (six sessions below) and gain valuable feedback as they further cultivate their leadership skills. The plan builds on an assessment of where students are now, and establishes goals and action steps for short-term and longer-term development.

One of the ultimate goals of this partnership is to examine students’ skill development over time and match it with involvement and experiences they have had at Duke. An integral part of this pilot program is the feedback participating students provide the research team.

Additionally, participants will be invited to attend specific sessions of the Fuqua School of Business and Coach K Conference (October 19-21, 2009) and will receive recognition at the Student Affairs Distinguished Leadership and Service Awards program on April 21, 2010.

Schedule and time commitment:
  • Applications due Tuesday, October 6, 12:00 pm (Please note: the original deadline was Sunday, October 11 at 11:59 pm; however, schedule changes necessitated an earlier deadline.)
