Duke Conversations Administrative Associate


Founded in 2005 and funded by the Office of the President at Duke University, Duke Conversations supports learning opportunities for Duke students outside of the classroom through engaging dialogue between students and compelling guests of their choice. The program is designed to inspire students’ intellectual curiosity; students gain perspectives from those beyond Duke and benefit from the wisdom that comes from their guests’ life and/or professional experiences.

Duke Conversations Administrative Associate Responsibilities: 
  • Provide program support for Duke Conversations. This includes:
    --Assisting with the Student Host application and Selection Committee processes. 
    --Brainstorming effective solutions to programmatic issues as they arise.
    --Updating the Duke Conversations guest spreadsheet that is sent to the President’s office on a monthly basis.
    --Attending Duke Conversations team meetings, typically once/week.
  • Provide general administrative support for the OSAF Business Office, including copying, filing, and other clerical tasks – with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Provide coverage of OSAF’s reception desk, as needed. This includes:
    --Representing Duke University, the Bryan Center, and the Office of Student Activities and Facilities in a positive and professional manner.
    --Greeting and assisting customers in a courteous, tactful and informative manner.
    --Answering phones.
Qualifications:
  • Basic understanding of the Duke Conversations program
  • High level of dependability and a developed value of maturity
  • Desire to excel at customer service in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work independently to identify resources and to make independent decisions
  • Positive attitude and professional image
  • Problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Quality computer and telephone skills are essential
OSAF is not hiring for this position as of Fall 2009.
