Sound Crew Member or Barista at the Duke Coffeehouse 

What is this position?

As an employee working with the Duke Coffeehouse, you will be responsible for the general operation and cleanliness of the Coffeehouse during your scheduled shift.  The Coffeehouse dually functions as a coffee shop and a music venue that serves the Duke and Durham Communities.  The Coffeehouse promotes and presents local music and nationally known musical artists. 

When is the Coffeehouse in operation?

Days:  The Coffeehouse is open 7 days a week - Monday through Friday!

Hours:  The Coffeehouse operates from the hours 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.  Shift length will be determined by the tasks/jobs you are scheduled for that evening.  You will be able to choose what position you would like to be trained on.   

Where is the Coffeehouse located?

The Coffeehouse is located on East Campus in the Crowell Building.

Sound Crew Member

• MUST be on time for scheduled shifts!  (6pm to 2am)
• Operation of sound for musical artists or Coffeehouse programming – this includes sound check and assistance with setup and take down
• General customer service skills – you will be working with local and national artists – be approachable and friendly!
• Responsible for general responsibilities of event management (TBA depending on the night’s events)

Barista

• Must be on time for scheduled shifts!  (Shifts are normally split into two times – 6pm to 10pm and 10pm to 2am.)
• General customer service skills – you will be working with local and national artists – be approachable and friendly!
• Operation of coffee and espresso machines
• Taking and maintaining inventory of soda, coffee, tea, candy, and other sales items
• Operation of the Coffeehouse register
• Responsible for the handling and managing money made during each shift
• General cleanliness and maintenance of the Coffeehouse kitchen and seating space

 
As with both of the positions, you must come to work to have fun and enjoy yourself!!!  No experience is needed to work with the Coffeehouse!  Employees will partake in a general operations training session that will cover both areas of Coffeehouse operation, including Sound Equipment and Barista training.
